I think here is no any real attempt to protect the children. Children’s social services are only the instrument of pressure and control, and by their help the impact on anybody can be made. Anybody can blackmail family using children’s social services for any purposes. However, nobody bears any responsibility for the children in this system, as we see on the example of ACS workers. Then, why they try to dictate their standards, methods, rules how to bring children up? Who are they to the children and to the family? Several women and men, graduated with some credits in psychology from college of below average level, have right to teach the family how to live, and how to bring up the children (which most of them never had as they are even never married)?! By what right - only because they have paper where printed “name-surname is ACS worker”?! Any person (except ACS workers and those who appointed and hired them) understands - such “experts” are not allowed within firing range to be near the family and the children (however, ACS workers think, they are psychologists, lawyers, teachers, etc. If they had permission-they could be even judges). Any professional psychologist will detect that Pokrovski children have a psychological trauma; however, its origin is not the family, but forced deprivation of it by ACS. ACS has many rights, but no duties. Evil is in this. They hurry to take children from family without any investigation and to put in foster house, and then parents have to prove almost that “they are not four-legged”, and only if PARENTS will prove (only ACS knows what do they need to prove) - MAY BE social services will return children. Nonsense, even the presumption of innocence, applying to the last bloody murderers, is not using in this disgusting system! I think the methods to overcome it - only court, with compensation for moral harm to the children and family, plus public activity. The list of workers of ACS, who in their fight against family transgressed the all possible legal and moral norms, caused irreparable psychological trauma to Pokrovski family and to the children, have to be given to all related governmental authorities with requests of not only providing the internal investigation, but up to criminal responsibility of social workers for child abuse they made.

I am really concerned and angry, what happens to the children of Pokrovski! This is deeply wrong. They have to do everything to keep the family together – but they didn’t. It is very suspicious. First of all, they had to find anybody from family – grandmother, grandfather etc. to care for the children (it is part of their instruction), but it is nothing about that here – they immediately took children into custody. You know, it is very costly procedure for social services, (and therefore – for the tax payers, whose money are using for this, and it is a lot of money) to bring a child into care, and to go through court proceedings, etc. So, they will only get permission to do this if they think that children are in real danger, or they are not being looked after well enough (here are no any clear evidence), and everything that can be tried at home has been tried (it seems that ACS even didn’t try). I think that you need to bring this to discussion – it seems that ACS likes to spend a lot from the funds, which are forming from money of the American tax payers. They will never like it, and the rating of local politics permitting this will also be reduced. I think, it is the way to bring the people together, and to make the social services to do their work, but not to do what they wish. Everybody understands that the situation with Pokrovski is nonsense. The general public needs to be shocked into such a “caring” through media, that will work, plus, of course, court. I offer to create a database, where such cases have to be described and registered, and the names of such social workers may be written by anybody suffered from them. Thus, the rottenness of system will be not hidden anymore!

Family is the only the best place for the children. And what does the ACS and other similar services do? They break the institute of family. Instead deciding the social problems led to children’s bad life in families, when they really need help, social services simply take them from the family. It is the terrible system taking the path of least resistance. Of course, social services have to show their work otherwise they can say good bye to the budget financing of their warm working places and generally to their great work. That is why they have no interest in stopping the violence in families in real. If all children will live well in the families-where children social workers will work? Social workers worry to be unnecessary. It is very horrible to understand, but it is true. Social services have no interest in stopping the violence in the families! As for Pokrovski children, I am sure that the human factor plays leading role exactly in the cases with Russian families as well as with families of other migrants. There are not only unprofessional social workers, but it can easily be that many of them are prejudiced, and some may have outright hostility if the family, for example, Russian (as well as Chinese or any other). It can be too, whatever they say-people are people. Everyone has his or her own quirks and whims. However, there are many factors else. Interest of social workers in this work by any cost is one of them and probably the main. They will lie, squirm and do anything for that. ACS mentioned religious movement Pokrov – it is like everything they don’t understand has to be forbidden (how social workers perform their duties made me think so as well as the criteria to get this job-something like college education and some credits in psychology. That’s all! Probably, many of them even don’t know what is Buddhism, and here-Pokrov movement!) About performance duties-in any other company they were fired because of inability to follow the simple instruction. But - not from ACS. Probably, it is because the whole system is unprofessional. However, I have read that even social workers recognize that mostly only Russian families in cases taking children from family start to attract society, to give interviews and to make everything to get the attention to the unfairness, even when sometimes the Russian families in the country is less than 1%. , Kira and Nikolay-you are on the right way. And we will support you in everything! Wish you good luck and may God help you!

It is the same situation, Wow, as you have said in this quote about Nazi – it is really dangerous to think like “it is no concern of mine”, because who think so easily can be the next. However, the positive thing is that many people support Pokrovski and follow the new about their kids, and pray about them. It gives hope that everything will turn to good very soon. I believe that evil has its end too, and I would like to express the greatest support to Pokrovski in their fair struggle. May God help them, and I believe that their children will be with mom and dad very soon!

This situation is hard to call an obvious one. It is unusual and difficult to be solved. There are some important reasons which make it so. The first reason is that in this problem children are involved and they are not simply involved as some participant, but they are victims and their rights are infringed. Children are supposed to be in the vulnerable part of society, I mean they should be better protected because they can not defend themselves. The second reason why this situation is an unusual one – the fact that the second party of the conflict is not a criminal group or some unsociable people. Instead of them we see official represent ants whose job is to protect society, especially children. It is a very bad signal for all community when the institutions which should protect us, try to infringe our rights. The third moment which put me on thoughts is the fact of discrimination, and as we see it is an indirect one. We know that the author is a migrant and at the same time he leads a religious movement, so we can speak about a kind of double discrimination.

The instinct of revenge is a very powerful one and it is specific only for human being. There is no animal who uses it, only people. So a reasonable question appears: Why do people use it? Are we worser than animals? Who is guilty in such situations and how should we solve them? I think people use revenge to show their power and importance. It is a kind of pride. This instinct is appropriate to many persons and only a little part of them realize that revenge doesn’t mean power. A really strong and confident man will never do such things because he knows very well who is him and what value he has in society. Revenge is often used by weak and unhappy people, who can not manage their own life, that’s why they try to brake others one. The worst situation is when such people have a public function and when they have the right to influence on others, especially on children. (We can see some examples at schools when unsuccessful teachers try to show their value and begin to treat our children unfair). To stop this process we should begin from ourselves. We should build our life on some fundamental principles, but not on emotions and revenge.

I agree with you in the part of judgment. Yes, we all should stop judging our friends, co-workers and neighbors. We all see the speck in our brother's eye but fail to notice the beam in our own eyes. But as you said the judgment is a part of our humanity and it is not so easy to change it. We should start doing it from ourselves first of all. However I cannot agree with you in the part of children’s opinions. It is very important to hear children’s voice and be sensitive to children’s wishes, but you should understand that child’s opinion is very easy to control and impact. Every abused child will say that he wants to live with parents because he loves them so mush in spite of all fear and beating. Young children are very attached to their parents and don’t have their own opinion. Only at adolescence they start understanding that something is wrong in the family and have a wish to change the situation. Therefore, the opinion of young children is not important in court.

I have read the articles several times and still I can’t believe. I feel very very sad, and wish to express my sympathy to Pokrovski. Same time, I admire how even during this unfair situation they are still good and kind, and even they worry for their abusers. ACS was created with the good purposes, however, wrong approach in measuring the performance of such organizations led to this situation. It seems, employees of ACS really afraid that if they’ll not take children from the families, their higher bosses will think they don’t perform their duties, and only from being afraid to lose this job, they are ready to take children from any family and by any reasons, even very exaggerated sometimes. Here is the main evil! The system is wrong from the beginning, and it can’t be effective and helpful. It can only destroy – families, relationships, children’s and parent’s destinies. Main is – TO TAKE kids from family and what will be the next – that is not ACS’s headache. Many experts say that ACS never supports children’s upbringing in their new families, and even there is no any help from their side for kids with disabilities! But the most shame, which I feel, is for police agreed to support that. Armed males cops against kids – how about that?! I feel really horrible that EVERYBODY in this country potentially can be on the place of Pokrovski! That is why nobody can pass by this situation. I know there are many cases like this, and American people will support Pokrovski. They need to organize campaign, and bring this information to the widest auditory. They need to require the independent investigation of this abuse made by ACS, at least, in mass-media. Reporters will do that professionally, and ACS will not be able to stay “white and soft” after that anymore! It seems to me that it was real kidnapping, because ACS didn’t give any clear evidences of children’s suffering in Pokrovski family. It’s time to name the things by their real names! I really believe that Pokrovski family will be together soon with their kids, and I would like to ask everybody to pray for that. There is no other way, and evil has its finish too!

Pity you are. I cannot imagine what parents feel in such miserable situation. How can children be apart from parents when parents are adequate and alive. I cannot imagine myself living without my mother and father and knowing that they are near me but I cannot see them every day. What should these children feel I don’t even know! I think they ask themselves if they did something wrong. They may feel that is it their guilt. I know for sure that children in the separated families of all ages up to the teenager’s period blame themselves for the parents’ divorce. But this situation even worse, they’ve almost lost both parents at the same time. They cannot feel the kindness and care of mother, the protection and security of father. I hope they were explained that this situation’s only adults’ business and it doesn’t have any connection with children behavior or actions. And still I cannot imagine meetings of the family. I’m sure that children asks parents when they’ll be taken home. And what do parent answer???? It is such a horrible situation. I am so upset because of it. I have told all my friends and family about this case and they cannot believe in it too. We live in a cruel world. I hope you will find the way out soon and solve this situation with dignity. I also wish your children be happy and calm, I do hope they will come back home and you all together will be a happy family again.

O my God what a sad story  Children were taken from their parents without any reasons. Such things shouldn’t happen in our world. In our world where terrible things happen every day and thousands of people suffer from manifestations of the power of the land, such as an earthquake or a flood, or they are injured in various accidents. So why do we need to increase human suffering by ill-considered actions or by human malice and stupidity. Such a lot of pain for parents and their children. I can't imagine how these children want to return home, to live in normal house to have normal happy family evenings. What do people who took these children think about? Or children's tears are nothing for them. And poor parents their most valuable asset where taken from them - their children. They won't be able to happy until their children are not with them. So, I think everything possible have to be done to bring children back home. Mass media have to be involved in the situation. All liability civil servants that can change the situation should be involved as soon as possible. I want to wish all the best for parents and children. And I hope that this terrible injustice will be resolved in the best possible way. And all these nightmares will be forgotten like a bad dream. And we will see a new picture with happy reunited family.

Every person has the right to believe in a religion that he wants to believe in. This freedom is written down in human rights declaration and nobody can limit it. Also a person has the right to share with others his feelings and to promote his believes. This promotion is legal until somebody’s rights are infringed. These principles are very fair and sounds beautiful when you read them from the paper. In real life it is not so perfect. Reality shows us that there are some exceptions for some people and we all know about them. We call it discrimination. There are a lot of minorities in every country and here I don’t speak only about religion. There can be ethical minorities, racial ones or religion, as I said. On paper these minorities are protected by special laws and by special organizations, but de facto they are often discriminated. So what advice can we give for such people? I think the best thing that they can do legally is to study, to know very well and to defend their rights. There is a good idea which can be appropriate to our subject: “If you don’t know your rights, you haven’t them!”

There is so much wrong with religious discrimination. From Muslims not being allowed to board planes or the Pokrovski family having their children taken away, it seems as though we live in the most hypocritical society imaginable! At least in the old days, discrimination was outspoken and one could withdraw to a like-minded community. Nowadays, although we live in a supposedly free and democratic environment, we find our religion constantly put down by those who claim to know better. I think it's so important for everyone to accept each other's points of views. And it's also extremely important to accept that children have a right to their own point of view! I'm sure the children are desperate to go home, regardless of what their parents believe or how they are trying to advertise their faith. Yet the children's opinion is disregarded because in our society children aren't allowed a point of view. Again, at the very least in the "old days" which we've tried so hard to put behind us in our panglobalized global village, the only people responsible for children were their parents! Now, there's a whole system that's "looking out" for their interests, and its created a busybody society! We all are constantly paying attention to each other and wondering how everyone else is raising their kids and what they are believing in and why, even though it's completely not our place to do so, and our official cultural values are against this. How is it our place to judge? How can any stranger judge what's going on inside a family and take the children away? Why can't these children have a right to their own say? Why do we hear about what some social worker thinks rather than what those three beautiful angels think? We live in a messed up society! The only way to change it, is to change ourselves. Next time, before judging someone for their clothes or parenting, consider the Pokrovski children. That's what judging results in. It results in a family being completely destroyed. IT IS NOT YOUR PLACE TO JUDGE. Neither Jesus nor Allah ever told you to go and judge your friends and neighbors, or offer your opinion to them. THAT ISN'T WHAT RELIGION IS ABOUT. IT ISN'T WHAT HUMANITY IS ABOUT. WE SHOULD LAY OFF JUDGEMENTS, AND LET EVERYONE DO AS THEY SEE FIT. I really think that this horrific story is symptomatic of a rotting within our society, a rotting within each and every single one of us. I don't think it's going to stop unless everyone does more about it. Folks, let's get the Pokrovski family's story out there and start changing the world for the better, one healed family at a time. Not that the Pokrovski children will ever be completely healed. Imagine being separated from your parents, completely at random, for a vast portion of your childhood?! Even if it's not a vast portion, even if it's just a couple of years, in your childhood that is extremely long. Remember how long summers seemed as a child? Imagine a summer away from your family, in a foster family with many other children and not enough loving caregiving. This messed with a child's attachment patterns and can lead to massive social issues later on in life, this is FACT. Tons of psychological studies have shown this. So let's get this story out, and get these kids back to their parents and allow them to start healing. Don't let your JUDGEMENTS and religious prejudices destroy an innocent child's life, like this would no doubt do to the Pokrovski children. It is never anyone's place to judge. The reason I think children's opinions aren't taken more seriously? BECAUSE CHILDREN NEVER EVER DISCRIMINATE OR JUDGE. I have yet to meet a racist child. And I certainly don't think you can find a child who would discriminate against another child based on something as TRIVIAL as religious belief. And that's why we don't care what children think, because it doesn't fit into our global culture of judging and placing into boxes and offering opinions and stifling the person. I'm sorry for my rant, but I feel very strongly about this matter. I think everyone who is affected by the Pokrovski story should do a series of things: let's start a petition on change.org in order to see if more people are equally scandalized. Secondly, tell those you know. Send a link to this story. Explain why this is WRONG. And thirdly and most importantly, look within yourself. Next time you talk to a child, take his or her opinion completely seriously. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT. This is a fact. For instance, a baby is able to tell what it should eat in order to grow and develop. A child knows where he or she wants to be, who it wants to be around. Don't tell you child he or she can't go over to a friend's because you don't like those parents - you don't know them. Teach your children to take everyone's opinions seriously, and to never ever make assumptions or push their own ideals onto someone else. Let's change our global culture. Let's value our children. Let's stop with the racial and religious and cultural prejudice. Let's not judge books by their covers. That failing, let's go back to the old days. Let's start living in small, sheltered communities with only "our own" kind, and not letting other people's judgements matter. Because, clearly, the current attempt at a liberal global climate is just not working. This article very clearly shows me that it's time for some kind of massive, global change. When I do get this petition up, I will be sure to post it here, or, if anyone beats me to it, please post here. I am a regular contributor to the Pokrov forum, and will be sure to see. We truly need to build a better world for our children, because it's very messed up and they are far too good for it.

I am ready to join to any petitions to the authority or mass media to help you bring children back home. Children must not live separately from parents. It is against the nature of the people. Such young children must have a chance to communicate with mother and father every day, every minute. They should be aware of parents’ existence near them even at night. This helps them to understand that parents are with them all the time and it develops self-confidence in them and ability to be sure in their own actions and words. Presence of parents in children life is very important and crucial. It’s been known for a long time. Psychologists also affirm that children should see the relationship between mother and father. It is a pattern for them how to communicate with a person of opposite sex, how to build their own families and how to live all their lives communicating with other people. The situation when parents visit their babies one or two times a week affects children’s mind and psycho. They don’t know how to act, what to do in everyday life as they don’t see the behavior of their parents as an example. For instance, every day parents get up, go to shower, brush their teeth, go to have breakfast and say a prayer before having meal. Children learn everyday how they should arrange their daily routine and notice what is important and what is not. They pay special attention to a prayer and teeth brushing, but can forget about breakfast (if it is not so important in the family). It’s just the example, but I hope it has shown the importance of parents’ presence in children life. I don’t even mention the importance of family’s traditions and customs which children should inherit from their parents. This is how our society still exists! We know from our parents about them and tell and show our children the most important traditions, rites and customs. This is the merry-go-round of life and the officers from ACS have broken it. Shame on them!

After reading about your situation I would like to help somehow. But I don’t know how. Should you have any assistance, please don’t hesitate and ask me. I am ready to put my signature to any documents or declarations to authority or mass media. I think if the governmental services cannot or don’t want to work as proper, the public opinion should be involved. The government cannot just ignore public opinion and maybe you should start collecting signatures to bring your children back home immediately. I also consider the opportunity to write a letter to the highest authority like a president. You should insist on reviewing your case and it should be monitored by the president’s office or a Minister authorized for such cases. And I would like to add my sincere respect to you and your wife. You are really strong people! You experienced such a terrible situation in your life and still you wish no bad luck to people who are guilty in this awful situation. You should have very strong spirit and solid morality not to be offended and remain people. I do hope your family will gather together soon and all the misery you suffered will pass without any bad influence on you and especially on your children. All my family and I will pray for you and your children and also for the workers of ACS. I hope that soon some of them will find enough courage to admit they are wrong and correct the situation.

O my God. It is something impossible. How it can happened. I cannot believe. Poor children and poor their parents. Children were taken without any reason. Toys, carpet and other stupid reasons as for me are not reasons at all. There are not reasons for taking children from the family. As far as I understand for taking of children must be very serious reasons as for example risk for health of children or if behaviour of parents is extremely rude and with violence. Here as I can see situation is opposite. Great patient parents, who are full with love. And the children were taken...I have no words. Poor children they grow without love and attention of their parents. They miss so much it their life. And parents I cannot imagine how they miss their children. And how they dream to live together again. And I am sure that one day it will happen. And when it happens we will celebrate it with you. I wish you all the best and to be reunited with your children as soon as possible. And all our prays, thoughts and hopes are with you.

While reading this article I was thinking about how easy several adult people can decide the children’s destinies! Moreover, they are sure they have right to do that. It seems that it is as easy for them as to move sofa from living room to bedroom. How can they sleep calm after that? Honestly, I don’t understand the people who work for the ACS. Did they ever try to imagine themselves on place of mother and father whose children they have just took from their family? Do they have children too? If something similar happened with them? Or only salary is important? Many questions have arisen in my head. And I wonder how the ACS can violate the decision of Court to return the Pokrovski kids to the family? It is not an authority for them? Then who is authority? Very strange situation and it seems to me that really the ACS plays really dirty here. From the beginning there was no any clear reason of such a decision to take kids away from the family, only they could use the matter of the religious activity of the Pokrov movement. However, this movement is not forbidden by any decision of the court. So, here is no any official reason to take kids from the Pokrovski family. The ACS is not a board of religions yet or something like that and they have no any right to decide, which religious movement to forbid and which not. We see here direct excess of powers by the ACS. Together with my sympathy and support to Pokrovski, I would like to advice to initiate proceeding against the ACS. You’ll win!

Early childhood is the most important period of life for a person. These years are crucial for the future personality because child makes its first life principals and opinion about some things. Of course these principles can be changed with the influence of future experience, but anyway first ones are very powerful and they remain in mind. In this period of life children need a lot of care and attention which can be given only by their parents. It touches both of psychological and physical aspects. From psychological side children need parents support in every problem. Even little troubles can create big stress for a child, but at this age every stress is very dangerous and may cause a lot of damage. From physical side parents are very important for the child every day and every night. They take care of him as nobody else does and they have high responsibility catalyzed by their love and parental instinct. I think that children should be raised in their families if such possibility exists. Only family environment can create good condition for developing a clear mind and healthy body in a person.

And it is extremely unfair. I wish you all the best in your struggle. And as soon as possible reunite with your children.
The social workers should have another attitude towards simple people. We found us very often in the situation when instead of advise and help, we received angry words from them. I think that this problem is deeper than it looks from the first sight. Its rude come from integral system principles and these principles should be changed and improved. First principal, which I think is crucial for next ones and for good results as well as for good reputation, is the principal of high responsibility. Every social assistant should know that his or her work and decisions affect somebody’s life and in this case his or her mistake will have a very big price. This principal gains more value when we speak about children and their problems. Social authorities should help people de facto, but not only de iure. I mean that a simple person should feel their help and be pleased by its activity. The second principle is to take fair decisions. I know that sometimes it can be difficult and a decision will be never accepted by all as being fair, but in spite of this social authorities should have a real wish to do it.

That’s so terrible story! It touched my soul very deeply. And what was the problem? Is it a crime to believe in God? Than how many criminals are there in the world? Almost the whole population of the Earth, eh, guys?! Ok, that’s enough to be ironic, here is the main point that I would like to say. Dear Jerome, David, Karen, Daisy and Angela! I hope you will read this. That is a good thing that you try to do your work well. However, wouldn’t be better if you help to rescue children from the bad families where they really need your help, even in such a country like USA, but not from where they were happy? You see their eyes on the photo; it is possible to understand even from this small photo how happy they are with this family! Why do you wish to destroy that? I don’t believe that it could make you happy. Even if you made a mistake with this situation, it is not too late to turn it to the right point again! And I am sure you will be really happy from that, and will feel very calm and good. Making this good thing even may turn your life to better too, because everything returns to people – good as well as evil they do. I don’t know why – but I believe that you are still good people and may be just it is difficult for you to make the first step. Come on! Do it! Make the first good step – bring the Pokrovski children back to the family where they are happy! I believe you will be able!

Discrimination is a big problem in our society and it should be improved if not solved. We understand that it is impossible to eliminate discrimination at all, because everybody has some personal principles and very often these principles differ. The worst thing is the case when innocent people suffer (especially children) who have no guilt at all. One of the most powerful kind of discrimination is a religious based one. We can look in history and we will see how many people suffered and died of it. The national based discrimination has also a great negative effect on our society. It was the reason for a lot of wars and it is still has an influence on us. In our story I noticed both of these two kinds of discrimination and if I am not mistaken the author suggests they were the reason of problem. I don’t know any details and I don’ have any evidence so I can’t judge anybody here. I can only say that I am totally against discrimination and I wish one day all people have the same rights and obligations in our society!

Hello! I am here to say that it is necessary to have legal motivation to take children from their parents. By legal motivation I mean a bad treatment, violence, poor living conditions or other reasons. It is illegal to do such actions if there are no motivation. If children are well educated, healthy, they eat, study and enjoy their life, nobody can take them from parents. Parents have right to defend their children from illegal actions and they should use their rights. We should keep in mind the fact that parents are the only persons who legally can represent their children interests in court of justice. We also shouldn’t forget about human rights convention which gives legal base to act and to defend your children. Parents are those who have the biggest responsibility of their children and logicaly they should have as many rights as responsibilitie s. I hope the conflict will be solved and everybody will receive what he deserves!

Such notes as: “Toys must not wallow in the apartment”, "you should vacuum the carpet” or "your kids should be wearing t-shirts and sleep in pajamas at nights in the apartment” are not sufficient to serve as reason for parental rights deprivation. The same situation is with parenting classes which are not mandatory and parents decide for their selves to go or not to go at them. If parents don’t infringe their children rights and if they have appropriate location for good and healthy living, nobody can deprive them from parental rights. I think that children anyway will be more happy to live with their parents even if the conditions of living are not perfect. There is no such assistance which can be better than natural parents who love their children and give everything for them. When there is love and harmony in family, it doesn’t matter if the toys are on the floor or the carpet is not clean.
